The Whippets made Joe their goalkeeper | H |
A thing as weren t wanted at all | A |
For they knew once battle had started | G |
They d have no time to mess with the ball | A |

He leant back and went fast asleep | O |

When he woke with a clout in his ear | H |

He found 'twere the ball that had struck him | E |

But as no one had seen this ere appen | K |
He punted it back into play | P |

'Twere the first ball he d punted in anger | H |
His feelings he couldn t restrain | K |
Forgetting as he were goalkeeper | H |
He ran out and kicked it again | K |

Then after the ball like a rabbit | Q |
He rushed down the field full of pride | R |
He reckoned if nobody stopped him | E |
Then appen he d score for his side | R |

Alf way down he bumped into his captain | K |
Who weren t going to let him go by | M |
But Joe like Horatio Nelson | K |
Put a fist to the Captain s blind eye | M |

On he went 'til the goal lay before him | E |
Then stopping to get himself set | S |
He steadied the ball and then kicked it | T |
And landed it right in the net | S |

The fog seemed to lift at that moment | U |
And all eyes were turned on the lad | V |
The Whippets seemed kind of dumbfounded | W |
While the Swifts started cheering like mad | V |

'Twere his own goal as he d kicked the ball through | H |
He d scored for his foes gainst his friends | C |
