I mumbled on the hill at Aura how	B
I told you it was made for Katie's sake	C
When I was fresh from school and loving her	D
With all the strength of girlhood And you said	E
You liked my song although I didn't know	F
How it began at first and gabbled then	G
In a half voice because I was too shy	H
To speak aloud much less to speak them out	I
Words I had joined myself in the full voice	J
And with the lilt of proper poetry	K
You could have hardly heard me Here's the girl	L
The little girl from school you never knew	M
She made this song Read what you couldn't hear	N
How bright the windows are	O
When the dear sun shineth	P
They strive to reflect the sun	Q
To be bright like the sun	Q
To give heat like the sun	Q
My heart too has its chosen one	Q
And so to shine designeth	P
The windows on the opposite hill that day	R
Shone bright at sunset too and made me think	S
Of the old patter I had half forgot	T
Do you remember I remind you now	B
Who wandered yesterday for half an hour	D
Into St Francis where I thought of you	M
And how I would be glad to love you well	U
If I but knew the way The rhyme came back	V
Teasing me till I knew I hated it	W
I couldn't take that way of loving you	M
That was the girl's way Hear the woman now	B
Out of my thinking in the lonely church	X
And the day's labour in a friendly room	Y
Tumbled a song this morning you will like	Z
I love my love	A2
But I could not be	K
Good for his sake	C
That frightens me	K
Nor could I do	M
Such things as I should	B2
Just for the sake	C
Of being good	B2
Deeds are too great	C2
To serve my whim	D2
