Bird chirps laughter and water wave noiseA
Those were the sounds that filled my environmentB
Long lasting silence occupying the atmosphereC
The horses in my fathers farmhouse would often neigh disrupting the silence we are all used toD
As little kids we gather around to play in groupE
Our loud laughter cracking through walls of various homesF
We were innocent and naive happiness was the only emotion we knewD
-
Then they came Yes in big trucks and tanksG
Their hands wielding cold metals that emits fireH
Gunshots wailing and crying filled our ever peaceful atmosphereC
Blood of innocent children and mothers flow through my father's farmlandI
I saw wailing mothers clinging onto their children and defenseless Fathers falling to the ground like debrisJ
It all lasted for seconds then total silenceK
It is often said that all is fair in love and war and this was warL
-
Gboa I heard the sound loudly in my ears my hands tremble and beads of sweat gathered on my foreheadM
My heart raced like there was no tomorrowN
I saw them again pointing their guns towards meJ
My mouth opened partly and I draw in inconsistent breathsO
I struggled to the window and I saw the car that just bumped into the tree by the road sideP
Phew I sighed it's been ten years since the incident at my village but I still live in the illusion of the pastQ
Just last week Vivian was pouring me wine on my bedM
As she poured the content into my cupR
All I could see was blood flowing from my father's farmland into my gobletS
My hands trembled and my chest tightened at the sightT
Now a young man living in the city but still in chainsU
Anxiety fear sadness anger and trauma are the order of my daysV
I've said my predicament to only fewD
Some said I should find closure closure whereW
Many told me time heals all wounds that's only a fallacyJ
I feel this wound won't heal for a long time to comeX

Poet's note: This poem is basically my part on a collaboration I did with another poet. It's about the mental illness PTSD; a mental illness oblivious to some and sometimes ignored by some people in my society. People who lives with symptoms of mental illness like PTSD and OCD are sometimes stigmatized in the society, so the need to write about the pains of those with this illness so the society can see those living with this illness needs the love of the society and not otherwise. And to create and awareness that truly, people live with those illnesses
