Rhyme Scheme: A BCDEF GHIJK LMNFO PQLRS TFUVW

for Peter RuppellA
-
You wrote such a love poem that I wasB
dumb founded left to scratch the sandC
Alone in the surf I couldn t join the bait diggersD
I d left my fork and bucket at homeE
I am not rough by natureF
-
You were sitting on top of a boulder deep in the forestG
It was taller than a man surrounded by pine treesH
I think there are pine trees on Fire IslandI
but I ve never been to Fire Island thoughJ
I can imagine we all know what could happenK
-
there butL
the world that started in a parked carM
was really a fearful one It would only leadN
from one confusion to anotherF
I couldn t do this to you on the giant highwayO
-
She was a reason in herself women needP
the menace of ambiguity in their actionsQ
so one action might well signify the oppositeL
an act of sacrifice really the act of killing revengeR
this much was trueS
-
The exercise book was green the distanceT
saved much embarrassment though you wereF
in many ways ignorant of thisU
I still can t find my bucket bait forkV
but this is only an excuseW
