Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK LDLD AMAM NONO PQPQ RSRS'T is eight miles out and eight miles in | A |
Just at the break of morn | B |
'T is ice without and flame within | A |
To gain a kiss at dawn | C |
- | |
Far where the Lilac Hills arise | D |
Soft from the misty plain | E |
A lone enchanted hollow lies | D |
Where I at last drew rein | E |
- | |
Midwinter grips this lonely land | F |
This stony treeless waste | G |
Where East due East across the sand | F |
We fly in fevered haste | G |
- | |
Pull up the East will soon be red | H |
The wild duck westward fly | I |
And make above my anxious head | H |
Triangles in the sky | I |
- | |
Like wind we go we both are still | J |
So young all thanks to Fate | K |
It cuts like knives this air so chill | J |
Dear God if I am late | K |
- | |
Behind us wrapped in mist and sleep | L |
The Ruined City lies | D |
Although we race we seem to creep | L |
While lighter grow the skies | D |
- | |
Eight miles out only eight miles in | A |
Good going all the way | M |
But more and more the clouds begin | A |
To redden into day | M |
- | |
And every snow tipped peak grows pink | N |
An iridescent gem | O |
My heart beats quick with joy to think | N |
How I am nearing them | O |
- | |
As mile on mile behind us falls | P |
Till Oh delight I see | Q |
My Heart's Desire who softly calls | P |
Across the gloom to me | Q |
- | |
The utter joy of that First Love | R |
No later love has given | S |
When while the skies grew light above | R |
We entered into Heaven | S |
