Third Song, Written During Fever (three Songs Of Zahir-u-din) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCABC DAEDAF GAHGAH IJKIJK LIMLIM NOPNOP QRKQRK

To night the clouds hang very lowA
They take the Hill tops to their breastB
And lay their arms about the fieldsC
The wind that fans me lying lowA
Restless with great desire for restB
No cooling touch of freshness yieldsC
-
I sleepless through the stifling heatD
Watch the pale Lightning's constant glowA
Between the wide set open doorsE
I lie and long amidst the heatD
The fever that my senses knowA
For that cool slenderness of yoursF
-
So delicate and cool you areG
A roseleaf that has lain in snowA
A snowflake tinged with sunset fireH
You do not know so young you areG
How Fever fans the senses' glowA
To uncontrollable desireH
-
And fills the spaces of the nightI
With furious and frantic thoughtJ
One would not dare to think by dayK
Ah if you came to me to nightI
These visions would be turned to naughtJ
These hateful dreams be held at bayK
-
But you are far and LonelinessL
My only lover through the nightI
And not for any word or prayerM
Would you console my lonelinessL
Or lend yourself serene and slightI
And the cool clusters of your hairM
-
All through the night I long for youN
As shipwrecked men in tropics yearnO
For the fresh flow of streams and springsP
My fevered fancies follow youN
As dying men in deserts turnO
Their thoughts to clear and chilly thingsP
-
Such dreams are mine and such my thirstQ
Unceasing and unsatisfiedR
Until the night is burnt awayK
Among these dreams and fevered thirstQ
And through the open doorways glideR
The white feet of the coming dayK
