The Temple Dancing Girl Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCCC DCDC EFEF GCGC HIHI CCCC CJCJ GEGE AABB

You will be mine those lightly dancing feetA
Falling as softly on the careless streetA
As the wind loosened petals of a flowerB
Will bring you here at the Appointed HourB
-
And all the Temple's little links and lawsC
Will not for long protect your lovelinessC
I have a stronger force to aid my causeC
Nature's great Law to love and to possessC
-
Throughout those sleepless watches when I layD
Wakeful desiring what I might not seeC
I knew it helped those hours from dusk to dayD
In this one thing Fate would be kind to meC
-
You will consent through all my veins like wineE
This prescience flows your lips meet mine aboveF
Your clear soft eyes look upward into mineE
Dim in a silent ecstasy of loveF
-
The clustered softness of your waving hairG
That curious paleness which enchants me soC
And all your delicate strength and youthful airG
Destiny will compel you to bestowC
-
Refuse withdraw and hesitate awhileH
Your young reluctance does but fan the flameI
My partner Love waits with a tender smileH
Who play against him play a losing gameI
-
I strong in nothing else have strength in thisC
The subtlest most resistless force we knowC
Is aiding me and you must stoop and kissC
The genius of the race will have it soC
-
Yet make it not too long nor too intenseC
My thirst lest I should break beneath the strainJ
And the worn nerves and over wearied senseC
Enjoy not what they spent themselves to gainJ
-
Lest in the hour when you consent to shareG
That human passion Beauty makes divineE
I over worn should find you over fairG
Lest I should die before I make you mineE
-
You will consent those slim reluctant feetA
Falling as lightly on the careless streetA
As the white petals of a wind worn flowerB
Will bring you here at the Appointed HourB
