The Convert Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDB EFEFCCGF HIHIJJKI

The sun was hot on the tamarind treesA
Their shadows shrivelled and shrankB
No coolness came on the off shore breezeA
That rattled the scrub on the bankB
She stretched her appealing arms to meC
Uplifting the Flagon of Love to meC
Till great indeed was my unslaked thirstD
I paused I stooped and I drankB
-
I went with my foe to the edge of the craterE
But no one to return we knewF
The lava's heat had never been greaterE
Than the ire between us twoF
He flung back his head and he mocked at meC
He spat unspeakable words at meC
Our eyes met and our knives metG
I saw red and I slewF
-
Such were my deeds when my youth was hotH
And force was new to my handI
With many more that I tell thee notH
Well known in my native landI
These show thy Christ when thou prayest to HimJ
He too was a man thou sayest of HimJ
Therefore He when I reach His feetK
Will remember and understandI
