Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFG AHIH IJAJ CKLK ACMC ANON PQCQ PCRC ISTS AUAU

Drifting drifting down the RiverA
Tawny current and foam flecked tideB
Sorrowful songs of lonely boatmenC
Mournful forests on either sideB
-
Thine are the outcrops' glittering blocksD
The quartz where the rich pyrites gleamE
The golden treasure of unhewn rocksD
And the loose gold in the streamE
-
But the dim vast forests along the shoreF
That whisper wonderful things o' nightsG
These are things that I value moreF
My beautiful surface rightsG
-
Drifting drifting down the RiverA
Stars a tremble about the skyH
Ah my lover my heart is breakingI
Breaking breaking I know not whyH
-
Why is Love such a sorrowful thingI
This I never could understandJ
Pain and passion are linked togetherA
Ever I find them hand in handJ
-
Loose thy hair in its soft profusionC
Let thy lashes caress thy cheekK
These are the things that express thy spiritL
What is the need to explain or speakK
-
Drifting drifting along the RiverA
Under the light of a wan low moonC
Steady the paddles Boatmen steadyM
Why should we reach the sea so soonC
-
See where the low spit cuts the waterA
What is that misty wavering lightN
Only the pale datura flowersO
Blossoming through the silent nightN
-
What is the fragrance in thy tressesP
'T is the scent of the champa's breathQ
The meaning of champa bloom is passionC
And of datura deathQ
-
Sweet are thy ways and thy strange caressesP
That sear as flame and exult as wineC
But I care only for that wild momentR
When my soul arises and reaches thineC
-
Wistful voices of wild birds callingI
Far faint lightning towards the WestS
Twinkling lights of a Tyah homesteadT
Ruddy glow on a girl's bare breastS
-
Drifting boats on a mournful RiverA
Shifting thoughts in a dreaming mindU
We two seeking the Sea togetherA
When we reach it what shall we findU
