Sunstroke Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ ABAB

Oh straight white road that runs to meetA
Across green fields the blue green seaB
You knew the little weary feetA
Of my child bride that was to beB
-
Her people brought her from the shoreC
One golden day in sultry JuneD
And I stood waiting at the doorC
Praying my eyes might see her soonD
-
With eager arms wide open thrownE
Now never to be satisfiedF
Ere I could make my love my ownE
She closed her amber eyes and diedF
-
Alas alas they took no heedG
How frail she was my little oneH
But brought her here with cruel speedG
Beneath the fierce relentless sunH
-
We laid her on the marriage bedI
The bridal flowers in her handJ
A maiden from the ocean ledI
Only alas to die inlandJ
-
I walk alone the air is sweetA
The white road wanders to the seaB
I dream of those two little feetA
That grew so tired in reaching meB
