Lost Delight Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCCC DEFE GHFH IJBJ DKLK MNEN OPQP ERSR ETST CACA UTST BVUU UWUX

After the Hazara WarA
-
I lie alone beneath the Almond blossomsB
Where we two lay together in the springC
And now as then the mountain snows are meltingC
This year as last the water courses singC
-
That was another spring and other flowersD
Hung pink and fragile on the leafless treeE
The land rejoiced in other running waterF
And I rejoiced because you were with meE
-
You with your soft eyes darkly lashed and shadedG
Your red lips like a living laughing roseH
Your restless amber limbs so lithe and slenderF
Now lost to me Gone whither no man knowsH
-
You lay beside me singing in the sunshineI
The rough white fur unloosened at the neckJ
Showed the smooth skin fair as the Almond blossomsB
On which the sun could find no flaw or fleckJ
-
I lie alone beneath the Almond flowersD
I hated them to touch you as they fellK
And now who killed you worse Ah worse who loves youL
My soul is burning as men burn in HellK
-
How I have sought you in the crowded citiesM
I have been mad they say for many daysN
I know not how I came here to the valleyE
What fate has led me through what doubtful waysN
-
Somewhere I see my sword has done good serviceO
Some one I killed who smiling used your nameP
But in what country Nay I have forgottenQ
All thought is shrivelled in my heart's hot flameP
-
Where are you now Delight and where your beautyE
Your subtle curls and laughing changeful faceR
Bound bruised and naked dear God grant me patienceS
And sold in Cabul in the market placeR
-
I asked of you of all men Who could tell meE
Among so many captured sold or slainT
What fate was yours Ah dear God grant me patienceS
My heart is burnt is burnt with fire and painT
-
Oh lost Delight my heart is almost breakingC
My sword is broken and my feet are soreA
The people look at me and say in passingC
He will not leave the village any moreA
-
For as the evening falls the fever risesU
With frantic thoughts careering through the brainT
Wild thoughts of you Ah dear God grant me patienceS
My soul is hurt beyond all men call painT
-
I lie alone beneath the Almond blossomsB
And see the white snow melting on the hillsV
Till Khorassan is gay with water coursesU
Glad with the tinkling sound of running rillsU
-
And well I know that when the fragile petalsU
Fall softly ere the first green leaves appearW
Ah for these last few days God grant me patienceU
Since Delight is not I shall not be hereX
