Lallji My Desire Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBAAB DEFEGHAHAAEDDE IAJAEAKAAAEDDE DBLBEDDDAAEAAE

This is no time for saying 'no'A
Were thy last words to meB
And yet my lips refused the kissC
They might have given theeB
How could I knowA
That thou wouldst goA
To sleep so far from meB
-
They took thee to the Burning GhatD
Oh Lallji my desireE
And now a faint and lonely flameF
Uprises from the pyreE
The thin grey smoke in spirals driftsG
Across the opal skyH
Would that I were a wife of thineA
And thus with thee could dieH
How could I knowA
That thou wouldst goA
Oh Lallji my desireE
The lips I missedD
The flames have kissedD
Upon the Sandal pyreE
-
If one should meet me with a knifeI
And cut my heart in twainA
Then would he see the smoke ariseJ
From every severed veinA
Such is the burning inward fireE
The anguish of my painA
For my Beloved whose dying lipsK
Implored a kiss in vainA
How could I knowA
That thou wouldst goA
Oh Lallji my desireE
Too young thou artD
To lay thy heartD
Upon the Sandal pyreE
-
Thy wife awaits her coming childD
What were a child to meB
If I might take thee in these armsL
And face the flames with theeB
The priests are chanting round the pyreE
At dusk they will departD
And leave to thee thy lonely restD
To me my lonelier heartD
How could I knowA
Thou lovedst me soA
Upon the Sandal pyreE
He lies forsakenA
The flames have takenA
My Lallji my desireE
