Atavism Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JDKD

Deep in the jungle vast and dimA
That knew not a white man's feetB
I smelt the odour of sun warmed furC
Musky savage and sweetB
-
Far it was from the huts of menD
And the grass where Sambur feedE
I threw a stone at a Kadapu treeF
That bled as a man might bleedE
-
Scent of fur and colour of bloodG
And the long dead instincts roseH
I followed the lure of my season's mateI
And flew bare fanged at my foesH
-
-
-
Pale days and a league of lawsJ
Made by the whims of menD
Would I were back with my furry cubsK
In the dusk of a jungle denD
