In light of what s going onA
With political unrest raising its ugly headB
And the world seems to look for justice that s has goneC
Distant from reality pronounced deadB
On arrival on the tables of injustice and inequalityD
-
A nation divided torn asunderE
Like a cloth ripped and torn into twoF
I can feel the presence of unresolved rest go underE
To low to come up and go throughF
The fire but still gets burnedG
-
Where is the love pouring from heart to heartH
And from mind to mindI
It seems like it s torn asunder torn apartH
But where is mankindI
When we need them the mostJ
-
Mankind went to the nearest dope house for that artificial fixK
To remove themselves from the pain of realityD
While the single mom feeding mouths of sixK
While trying to hold things down you seeD
-
That s not the end of the story hereL
When a young black boy dreams to get out of the ghettoM
Away from the rough necks but runs scare with fearN
Either get gun down from a trigger happy cop or own kind leaving a mother in sorrow and in tearsO
And that s just reported on the local six o clock newsP
-
That s still not the end of the storyD
When a girl gets snatched up off the streetsQ
Finding them turning tricks for one night of gloryD
And if they are a good girl they ll get a special treatR
To soothe their troubled mindsS
-
-
That s still not the end of the storyD
A man pushing a cart down the street to find food somewhereT
Anywhere as he goes dumpster diving insideU
Not finding a dream but a meal that someone can shareT
To stay alive or dieV
-
That s not the end of the storyD
Where families comes to this country for a fair chance at lifeW
In order to live in peace and not fearN
Without all that strifeW
To hold to what they got even if it is just a dreamX
-
Still not the end of the storyD
The common man putting in the hours he needY
Working hard all day in order to surviveZ
And it isn t still enough to feedY
Other mouths in the house to feedY
-
This is not the end of the storyD
People dropping like fliesA2
From a pandemic that s killing folks left and rightB2
Can you hear the love ones criesA2
Asking God why him why herE
Can someone help us pleaseC2
-
In the mist of all that s going onA
While the world wondering if this going to endD2
In the meantime the song repeats that same songE2
While others cover their ears from hearing the truthF2
As society pats you on the head calling you friendD2
I have no friendsG2
Just associates wearing a mask of deceitR
Trying to fool somebody but in the endD2
They re there to beat you downH2
Calling you everything but a child of a GodI2
That s strange that someone won t believe that God is realJ2
Or discount Him out the picture of reality is sealJ2
With grace and mercyD
-
-
What in the world is going onA
The people that looks like me are being killed off one by oneK2
As the ones who supposedly protect and serveL2
Placing their knees on our black men s neckM2
And these thugs got some damn nervesN2
After help build this country for all peopleO2
And so that s the thanks we get for all this unnecessary dramaP2
Oh hell noM
That s still not the end of the storyD

Kenneth R. Jenkins

Poet's note: A poetic conversation of what’s been going in 2020 and even now. It was heart speaking out in pain.
