University Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGG GBGHIJKG GLMNOPQR SGMTBGUB VWXYUZA2B

To hurt the Negro and avoid the JewA
Is the curriculum In mid SeptemberB
The entering boys identified by hatsC
Wander in a maze of mannered brickD
Where boxwood and magnolia broodE
And columns with imperious stanceF
Like rows of ante bellum girlsG
Eye them outlandersG
-
-
In whited cells on lawns equipped for peaceG
Under the arch and lofty banisterB
Equals shake hands unequals blankly passG
The exemplary weather whispers Quiet quietH
And visitors on tiptoe leaveI
For the raw North the unfinished WestJ
As the young detecting an advantageK
Practice a faceG
-
-
Where on their separate hill the collegesG
Like manor houses of an older lawL
Gaze down embankments on a land in feeM
The Deans dry spinsters over family plateN
Ring out the English name like coinO
Humor the snob and lure the loutP
Within the precincts of this worldQ
Poise is a clubR
-
-
But on the neighboring range misty and highS
The past is absolute some luckless raceG
Dull with inbreeding and conformityM
Wears out its heart and comes barefoot and badT
For charity or jail The scholarB
Sanctions their obsolete diseaseG
The gentleman revolts with shameU
At his ancestorB
-
-
And the true nobleman once a democratV
Sleeps on his private mountain He was oneW
Whose thought was shapely and whose dream was broadX
This school he held his art and epitaphY
But now it takes from him his nameU
Falls open like a dishonest lookZ
And shows us rotted and endowedA2
Its senile pleasureB
