The Olive Tree Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBBBCDEEFGHBI JHFKL G

Save for a lusterless honing stone of moonA
The sky stretches its flawless canopyB
Blue as the blue silk of the Jewish flagC
Over the valley and out to seaB
It is bluest just above the olive treeB
You cannot find in twisted ItalyB
So straight a one it stands not on a cragC
Is not humpbacked with bearing in scored stoneD
But perfectly erect in my front yardE
Oblivious of its fame The fruit is hardE
Multitudinous acid tight on the stemF
The leaves ride boat like in the brimming sunG
Going nowhere and scooping up the lightH
It is the silver tree the holy treeB
Tree of all attributesI
-
Now on the lawnJ
The olives fall by thousands and I delightH
To shed my tennis shoes and walk on themF
Pressing them coldly into the deep grassK
In love and reverence for the total lossL
