Autograph Verses Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FGFGHIHIJKJKJLJL

'Prove what Life can give of gladnessA
Seek for aught that merits trustB
All thy mirth will turn to sadnessA
All thy bliss to cold disgustB
Soon revolving years will banishC
Fairest hopes in darkness laidD
Earthly treasures soon must vanishC
Strength and beauty fail and fade 'E
-
Thus life weary spake the preacherF
Closing his misguided questG
Heed him not the half truth teacherF
Deaf to Love's supreme behestG
But with Faith thy life adorningH
Serve thy race as Heaven hath plann'dI
Sow thy seed at dawn of morningH
Nor at evening stay thy handI
Never shall this path seem wearyJ
Never hath such purpose fail'dK
Nor the retrospect proved drearyJ
When Life's furthest heights are scaledK
And in bright realms still above theeJ
On some ever verdant shoreL
Those thou servest and who love theeJ
Shall rejoin to part no moreL
