A Psalm Of Subjection Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBDD EFEEFDD GHGGHDD IJIIJDD KCKKKCKKCD

Nurse your 'unconquerable soul 'A
But diligently bear in mindB
That Life is not a wayward strollC
For Circumstance asserts controlC
And fiercely prods you up behindB
This dictum you can safely trustD
Growl you may but Go you mustD
-
Though you may shaft with all your mightE
And kick against the goad like PaulF
Though you may prop and squeal and biteE
You still put up a losing fightE
Unconquerable soul and allF
Still subject to Compulsion's thrustD
Growl you may but Go you mustD
-
Have done with bluff for Satan's sakeG
A bulrush never can be strongH
You're overmatch'd make no mistakeG
The option is to bend or breakG
In either case you're forced alongH
And what avails your cheap disgustD
Growl you may but Go you mustD
-
In point of fact your name is SludgeI
And puppet like your lot is castJ
For though you may rebel and grudgeI
And spitefully refuse to budgeI
Your claim will be pegg'd out at lastJ
Sludge to sludge and dust to dustD
Growl you may but Go you mustD
-
Next hear St Peter's challenge keenK
'My son you've fail'd to nick a goalC
In headstrong wickedness sereneK
You fear'd not parson king or queenK
Your Bible was the BULLYTEENK
Wherefore your name is off the rollC
No picnic on these meadows greenK
No part in this celestial sceneK
For your unconquerable soulC
March down yon steps the doom is justD
Growl you may but Go you must '-
