Until sunsetA
From the dawnB
See the woodsmen of San JuanC
They want bread before it s goneB
Those from RoqueD
Feeling rockyE
Those from RiqueE
Feeling trickyE
Those from TriqueE
Sawing onC
-
Straddling his grandmother s firm kneesF
Jogging rhythmically the boy rides horseyE
Till both tremble filled with exaltationC
The granny smiles with motherly affectionC
But then a premonition flashes throughG
Her mind fear for the grief and anguishH
The coming days hold for her grandsonC
-
See the woodsmen of San JuanC
They want bread before it s goneC
Sss sss sawingE
Sawing onC
-
Those deep furrows tell the storyE
Of long suffering and unvoiced sorrowsI
On her head time has left its snowC
On her brow pain few have knownC
Her eyes clouded by the yearsJ
Are turbid mirrors that oft retainC
Images from lives forever goneC
-
Those from Roque feeling rockyE
Sss sss sawing sawing onC
-
Tomorrow when the beloved grandmotherK
Sleeps deep beneath the earth where othersL
Too dwell in the dark shadowsI
Of memory sweetly will comeM
Across eternity in somber cadencesN
Sad poems of childhood remembrancesN
Her voice singing the old songE
-
Those from Rique feeling trickyE
Sss sss sawing sawing onC
-
Then astride his grandmother s weary kneesF
Jogging rhythmically the boy rides horseyE
Till both tremble filled with exaltationC
The granny smiles with motherly affectionC
But then a premonition flashes throughG
Her mind fear of the grief and anguishH
The coming days hold for her grandsonC
-
Until sunsetA
From the dawnC
See the woodsmen of San JuanC
They want bread before it s goneC
Those from RoqueE
Feeling rockyE
Those from RiqueE
Feeling trickyE
Sss sss sawing sawing onC
Sss sss sawing sawing onC
