Dear Sir Since you in humble wiseA
Have made a recantationB
From your low bended knees ariseA
I hate such poor prostrationB
-
'Tis bravery that moves the braveC
As one nail drives anotherD
If you from me would mercy haveE
Pray Sir be such anotherD
-
You that so long maintain'd the fieldF
With true poetic vigourD
Now you lay down your pen and yieldF
You make a wretched figureD
-
Submit but do't with sword in handG
And write a panegyricH
Upon the man you cannot standG
I'll have it done in lyricH
-
That all the boys I teach may singH
The achievements of their ChironB
What conquests my stern looks can bringH
Without the help of ironI
-
A small goose quill yclep'd a penJ
From magazine of standishK
Drawn forth 's more dreadful to the DeanL
Than any sword we brandishK
-
My ink's my flash my pen's my boltM
Whene'er I please to thunderD
I'll make you tremble like a coltM
And thus I'll keep you underD
