The Upstart Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCCDDEEFFGHIIJKLLMM NNOOPPEEEE

The following lines occur in the Swiftiana and are by Mr Wilson the editor ascribed to Swift ScottA
-
The rascal that's too mild a nameB
Does he forget from whence he cameB
Has he forgot from whence he sprungC
A mushroom in a bed of dungC
A maggot in a cake of fatD
The offspring of a beggar's bratD
As eels delight to creep in mudE
To eels we may compare his bloodE
His blood delights in mud to runF
Witness his lazy lousy sonF
Puff'd up with pride and insolenceG
Without a grain of common senseH
See with what consequence he stalksI
With what pomposity he talksI
See how the gaping crowd admireJ
The stupid blockhead and the liarK
How long shall vice triumphant reignL
How long shall mortals bend to gainL
How long shall virtue hide her faceM
And leave her votaries in disgraceM
Let indignation fire my strainsN
Another villain yet remainsN
Let purse proud C n next approachO
With what an air he mounts his coachO
A cart would best become the knaveP
A dirty parasite and slaveP
His heart in poison deeply diptE
His tongue with oily accents tiptE
A smile still ready at commandE
The pliant bow the forehead blandE
