The Leper Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHGH IJIJ KLML NONO PQRS TUVW

Oft as the leper's case I readA
My own described I feelB
Sin is a leprosy indeedC
Which none but Christ can healB
-
Awhile I would have passed for wellD
And strove my spots to hideE
Till it broke out incurableF
Too plain to be deniedE
-
Then from the saints I sought to fleeG
And dreaded to be seenH
I thought they all would point at meG
And cry Unclean uncleanH
-
What anguish did my soul endureI
Till hope and patience ceasedJ
The more I strove myself to cureI
The more the plague increasedJ
-
While thus I lay distressed I sawK
The Savior passing byL
To him though filled with shame and aweM
I raised my mournful cryL
-
Lord thou canst heal me if thou wiltN
For thou canst all things doO
O cleanse my leprous soul from guiltN
My filthy heart renewO
-
He heard and with a gracious lookP
Pronounced the healing wordQ
I will be clean and while he spokeR
I felt my health restoredS
-
Come lepers seize the present hourT
The Saviour's grace to proveU
He can relieve for he is pow'rV
He will for he is loveW
