The Golden City Of St. Mary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAB CCCB DDDB EEEB

Out beyond the sunset could I but find the wayA
Is a sleepy blue laguna which widens to a bayA
And there's the Blessed City so the sailors sayA
The Golden City of St MaryB
-
It's built of fair marble white without a stainC
And in the cool twilight when the sea winds waneC
The bells chime faintly like a soft warm rainC
In the Golden City of St MaryB
-
Among the green palm trees where the fire flies shineD
Are the white tavern tables where the gallants dineD
Singing slow Spanish songs like old mulled wineD
In the Golden City of St MaryB
-
Oh I'll be shipping sunset wards and westward hoE
Through the green topping combers a shattering into snowE
Till I come to quiet moorings and a watch belowE
In the Golden City of St MaryB
