What of these tender feetB
nbsp nbsp nbsp That have never toddled yetC
nbsp nbsp nbsp What dances shall they beatB
nbsp nbsp nbsp With what red vintage wetC
In what wild way will they march or stray by what sly paynims metC
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp The toil of it none may shareD
nbsp nbsp nbsp By yourself must the way be wonE
nbsp nbsp nbsp Through fervid or frozen airD
nbsp nbsp nbsp Till the overland journey's doneE
And I would not take for your own dear sake one thorn from your trackF
nbsp nbsp nbsp my sonE
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp Go forth to your hill and daleG
nbsp nbsp nbsp Yet take in your hand from meH
nbsp nbsp nbsp A staff when your footsteps failG
nbsp nbsp nbsp A weapon if need there beH
'Twill hum in your ear when the foeman's near athirst for the victoryH
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp In the desert of dusty deathI
nbsp nbsp nbsp It will point to the hidden springJ
nbsp nbsp nbsp Should you weary and fail for breathI
nbsp nbsp nbsp It will burgeon and branch and swingJ
Till you sink to sleep in its shadow deep to the sound of its murmuringJ
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp You must face the general foeK
nbsp nbsp nbsp A phantom pale and grimL
nbsp nbsp nbsp If you flinch at his glare he'll growK
nbsp nbsp nbsp And gather your strength to himL
But your power will rise if you laugh in his eyes and away in a mistM
nbsp nbsp nbsp he'll swimL
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp To your freeborn soul be trueN
nbsp nbsp nbsp Fling parchment in the fireO
nbsp nbsp nbsp Men's laws are null for youN
nbsp nbsp nbsp For a word of Love is higherO
And can you do aught when He rules your thought but follow your own desireO
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp You will dread no pinching dearthP
nbsp nbsp nbsp In the home where you love to lieQ
nbsp nbsp nbsp For your floor will be good brown earthP
nbsp nbsp nbsp And your roof the open skyQ
There'll be room for all at your festival when the heart red wine runs highQ
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp Joy to you joy and strifeR
nbsp nbsp nbsp And a golden East beforeS
nbsp nbsp nbsp And the sound of the sea of lifeR
nbsp nbsp nbsp In your ears when you reach the shoreS
And a hope that still with as good a will you may fight as you fought of yoreS
