Transports Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CBCB DEDE

Behind us lay the homely shoreA
With youthful memories aureoledB
A sky of dazzling blue beforeA
We sailed a sea of molten goldB
-
To our old haven we returnC
By smoky hills as grey as mudB
We see the sullen sunset burnC
Malignant on a lake of bloodB
-
Yes we return but memory roamsD
A foul bleak age of pain that yieldsE
The smoke and flame of ruined homesD
The muck of cannon pitted fieldsE
