The Guest House Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDECDE| What imps are these that come with scowl and leer | A |
| Black motes upon the morning's amber beam | B |
| They crowd and float about each happy dream | B |
| And blow upon pure joy the taint of fear | A |
| Perforce those muttered hideous words we hear | A |
| Yet bid our nobler nature rise supreme | B |
| And sunlike dry to naught th' infernal steam | B |
| Till all our day is luminous and clear | A |
| What cruel beasts find refuge in the soul | C |
| Amid the murky deep of sightless flame | D |
| Whose waves are flatten'd by a rain of blood | E |
| Nay but however pure the waters roll | C |
| The offal thrown therein will rise and shame | D |
| Their glittering pride with bubbles from the mud | E |
