Rhyme Scheme: ABBACC DEEDFF GHHGII JKKLMMAlone | A |
I sit in the dusk and see | B |
Surely the living faces dear to me | B |
Of comrades who have thrown | A |
All that they had the fruit of all desire | C |
Upon an altar fire | C |
- | |
They heard | D |
Above all clamour of the crowd | E |
The music of their own hearts throbbing loud | E |
Until the air was stirred | D |
Into a summoning harmony and so | F |
We saw them rise and go | F |
- | |
The sound | G |
That love set ringing in those years | H |
Of agony exultation voiceless fears | H |
And hopes now underground | G |
Shall not be silenced it is thrilling yet | I |
And we shall not forget | I |
- | |
But clear | J |
The mellow tone of mingled notes | K |
Triumph and sorrow made one spirit floats | K |
To my prophetic ear | L |
That is their music echoing echoing still | M |
From our remembering hill | M |
