Incarnation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABB CDCEF GHGHH GIGII JKLKK GMGMM NONOGO

OUR little queen of dreamsA
Our image of delightB
Which whitens east and gleamsA
And beckons from the heightB
Takes on her human form is here in mortal sightB
-
We two have loved her longC
Have known her eyes for yearsD
We worshipped her with songC
The spirit only hearsE
And now she comes to us new washed with blood and tearsF
-
Her radiant self she veilsG
With vesture meet for earthH
And knowing all inhalesG
The lethal air of birthH
And wakes to restless dreams of misery and mirthH
-
The fogs of learning riseG
And hide the light aboveI
But in her steadfast eyesG
Will shine the light of loveI
Which many a gloomy dale may know the gladness ofI
-
What gift is ours to giveJ
What truth is ours to teachK
That she may learn to liveL
With joy within her reachK
We can but let her learn the sound of human speechK
-
By custom fettered foolsG
Her freedom will be blamedM
Because by sleepy rulesG
Her soul shall be untamedM
And she will front the sun brown skinned and unashamedM
-
Her kinship she will knowN
With beast and rock and treeO
Wherever she may goN
The sky her home will beO
The winds will be her matesG
her crooning nurse the seaO
