And now she comes to us new washed with blood and tears | F |

The lethal air of birth | H |
And wakes to restless dreams of misery and mirth | H |

The fogs of learning rise | G |
And hide the light above | I |
But in her steadfast eyes | G |
Will shine the light of love | I |
Which many a gloomy dale may know the gladness of | I |

What gift is ours to give | J |
What truth is ours to teach | K |
That she may learn to live | L |
With joy within her reach | K |
We can but let her learn the sound of human speech | K |

Her freedom will be blamed | M |
Because by sleepy rules | G |
Her soul shall be untamed | M |
And she will front the sun brown skinned and unashamed | M |
