Anzac Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGAAHHII JJ| Within my heart I hear the cry | A |
| Of loves that suffer souls that die | A |
| And you may have no praise from me | B |
| For warfare's vast vulgarity | B |
| Only the flag of love unfurled | C |
| For peace above a weeping world | C |
| I follow though the fiery breath | D |
| Of murder shrivel me in death | D |
| Yet here I stand and bow my head | E |
| To those whom other banners led | E |
| Because within their hearts the clang | F |
| Of Freedom's summoning trumpets rang | F |
| Because they welcomed grisly pain | G |
| And laughed at prudence mocked at gain | G |
| With noble hope and courage high | A |
| And taught our manhood how to die | A |
| Praise praise and love be theirs who came | H |
| From that red hell of stench and flame | H |
| Staggering bloody sick but still | I |
| Strong with indomitable will | I |
| Happy because in gloomiest night | J |
| Their own hearts drummed them to the fight | J |
