Sunset Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGF HIJIKLMN OPQPRSTS UVUVFWXW YRZRA2B2RB2Last eve the sun went down | A |
Like a globe of glorious fire | B |
Into a sea of gold | C |
I watched the orb expire | D |
It seemed the fitting end | E |
For the brightness it had shed | F |
And the cloudlets he had kissed | G |
Long lingered over head | F |
- | |
All vegetation drooped | H |
As if with pleasure faint | I |
The lily closed its cup | J |
To guard 'gainst storm and taint | I |
The cool refreshing dew | K |
Fell softly to the earth | L |
All lovely things to cheer | M |
And call more beauties forth | N |
- | |
And as I sat and thought | O |
On Nature's wond'rous plan | P |
I felt with some regret | Q |
How small a thing is man | P |
However bright he be | R |
His efforts are confined | S |
Yet maybe if he will | T |
Leave some rich fruits behind | S |
- | |
- | |
The sun that kissed the flowers | U |
And made the earth look gay | V |
Was culling through the hours | U |
Rich treasures on his way | V |
And when the day was dead | F |
His stored up riches fell | W |
And to the moon arose | X |
Incense from hill and dell | W |
- | |
And when our span of life | Y |
Is ended will it be | R |
Through such a glorious death | Z |
We greet Eternity | R |
What have we said or done | A2 |
In all the long years passed | B2 |
And may not such as me | R |
Forgotten die at last | B2 |
