Tha wodn't goa an leave me JimA
All lonely by myselB
My een at th' varry thowts grow dimA
Aw connot say farewellB
-
Tha vow'd tha couldn't live unlessC
Tha saw me every dayD
An' said tha knew noa happinessE
When aw wor foorced awayD
-
An th' tales tha towld I know full weelB
Wor true as gospel thenF
What is it lad 'at ma's thee feelB
Soa strange unlike thisenF
-
Ther's raam enuff aw think tha'll findG
I'th taan whear tha wor bornF
To mak a livin if tha'll mindG
To ha' faith i' to mornF
-
Aw've mony a time goan to mi warkH
Throo claads o' rain and sleetI
All's seem'd soa dull soa drear an' darkJ
It ommust mud be neetI
-
But then when braikfast time's come raandI
Aw've seen th' sun's cheerin rayD
An' th' heavy lukkin claads have slunkJ
Like skulkin lads awayD
-
An' then bi nooin it's shooan soa breetI
Aw've sowt some shade to restI
An' as aw've paddled hooam at neetI
Glorious it's sunk i'th westI
-
An' tho' a claad hangs ovver theeK
An' trouble's hard to bideI
Have patience lad an' wait an' seeK
What's hid o'th' tother sideI
-
If aw wor free to please mi mindI
Aw'st niver mak this sturD
But aw've a mother ommust blindI
What mud become o' herD
-
Tha knows shoo cared for me when waikJ
An' helpless ivery limbA
Aw'm feeard her poor owd heart ud braikJ
If aw'd to leave her JimA
-
Aw like to hear thee talk o' th' treesL
'At tower up to th' skyJ
An' th' burds 'at flutterin i'th' breezeL
Lie glitterin' jewels flyJ
-
Woll th' music of a shepherd's reedI
May gently float alongJ
Lendin its tender notes to leadI
Some fair maid's simple songJ
-
An' flaars 'at grow o' ivery sideI
Such as we niver seeK
But here at hooam at ivery strideI
There's flaars for thee an' meK
-
Aw care net for ther suns soa breetI
Nor warblin melodyI
Th' clink o' thi clogs o' th' flags at neetI
Saands sweeter lad to meI
-
An' tho' aw wear a gingham gaanF
A claat is noa disgraceM
Tha'll niver find a heart moor warmN
Beat under silk or laceM
-
Then settle daan tak my adviceO
Give up this wish to rooamN
An' if tha luks tha'll find lots niceO
Worth stoppin' for at hooamN
-
God bless thee Jenny dry that e'eI
An' gi'e us howd thi handI
For words like thoase throo sich as theeI
What mortal could withstandI
-
It isn't mich o'th' world aw knowF
But aw con truly sayD
A faithful heart's too rich to throwF
Withaat a thowt awayD
-
So here aw'll stay and should fate fraanF
Aw'll tew for thine and theeI
An' seek for comfort when cast daanF
I'th' sunleet o' thi e'eI
