Repentant Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED AEFEGDGD ADHDDIDI JEFEAEGE

Oh lend me thy hand in the darknessA
Lead me once more to the lightB
Bear with my folly and weaknessA
Point me the way to do rightB
Long have I groped in the shadowC
Of error temptation and doubtD
In the maze I've strayed hither and thitherE
Vainly seeking to find a way outD
-
When I grasp thy firm hand in the darknessA
Courage takes place of my fearE
No more do I shudder and trembleF
When I know that my loved one is nearE
From sorrow and trouble oh lead meG
From dangers that sorely affrightD
Till at last every terror shall leave meG
And I rest in thine own loving lightD
-
Rest Aye rest If I have thy forgivenessA
If thy strong arm about me is twinedD
Let the past like a horrible visionH
Be for ever cast out of thy mindD
When I wilfully all my vows slightedD
And sought joy in a glittering sinI
I found but two lives that were blightedD
Two hearts filled with ruin withinI
-
Oh take me again to thy bosomJ
With a kiss tho' it be on my browE
And forgive one who wayward and sinfulF
Ne'er knew how she loved thee till nowE
And keep me away from the darknessA
Let thy hand lead me on evermoreE
Let me cling to thee bless thee and love theeG
As no loved one was e'er loved beforeE
