Plain Jane plain JaneA
This wor owd Butterworth's favourite strainA
For wealth couldn't buyB
Such pleasur an joyC
As he had wi his owd plain JaneA
Ther wor women who oftD
Maybe thinkin him softE
Who endeavoured to 'tice him awayF
But tho ther breet eenA
An ther red cheeks had beenA
Quite enuffto lead others astrayF
All ther efforts wor lostG
For he knew to his costH
'At th' pleasur they promised browt painA
Soa he left em behindI
Wol he went hooam to findI
Purer pleasures i'th' arms o' plain JaneA
-
Plain Jane plain JaneA
Owd Butterworth sed he'd noa cause to complainA
Shoo wor hearty an strongJ
An could troll aght a songJ
An trubbles shoo held i' disdainA
He'd not sell her squintK
For all th' brass i'th' mintK
Nor pairt wi her blossomin nooasL
He's no rival to fearM
Soa he keeps i' gooid cheerM
An cares nowt ha th' world comes or it gooasL
Cats are all gray at neetN
Soa when puttin aght th' leetN
As he duckt under th' warm caanterpainA
He sed Beauty breeds strifeO
Oft between man an wifeO
But it ne'er trubbles me nor awr JaneA
-
Plain Jane plain JaneA
To cuddle and coddle him allus wor fainA
Shoo wod cook stew or bakeP
Wesh and scaar for his sakeP
An could doctor his ivvery painA
Tho his wage wor but smallQ
Shoo ne'er grummeld at allQ
An if th' butter should chonce to run shortR
Her cake shoo'd ait dryB
If axt why shoo'd replyB
Becoss aw know weel ther's nowt for'tS
But th' harstun wor cleeanA
Tho th' livin wor meeanA
An her karacter hadn't a stainA
An owd Butterworth knowsL
As his bacca he blowsL
Ther's war wimmen ith' world nor owd JaneA
