Once Upon A Time. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FGFHIEIE BJBJKEKE LMLMNEOEWhen dull November's misty shroud | A |
All Nature's charms depress | B |
Flinging a damp dark deadening cloud | A |
O'er each heart's joyousness | B |
Our fancies quit their lighter vein | C |
And out from Memory's shrine | D |
We marshal thoughts of grief and pain | C |
Known once upon a time | E |
- | |
'Tis then that faces long forgot | F |
In shadows reappear | G |
Voices that once we heeded not | F |
Come whispering in the ear | H |
And ghosts of friends whom once we met | I |
When life was in its prime | E |
Recall acts we would fain forget | I |
Done once upon time | E |
- | |
Regretfull sighs for thoughtless deeds | B |
That worked another wrong | J |
Vows that we broke like rotten reeds | B |
Like spectres glide along | J |
Tears naught avail to heal the smart | K |
We caused nor deemed it crime | E |
Whilst selfishly we wrung a heart | K |
Loved once upon a time | E |
- | |
Oh could we but as on we go | L |
Care more for other's weal | M |
Nor deem all joys earth can bestow | L |
Are but for us to feel | M |
Then howe'er humble howe'er poor | N |
Our lives would be sublime | E |
Nor should we dread to ponder o'er | O |
Days once upon a time | E |
