O charming MayA
That's what they sayA
The saying is not newB
The saying is not trueB
O MayA
-
Bare fields and icebound streamsC
Sunshine in fitful gleamsC
May smileD
BeguileD
And dispel poets' dreamsC
-
Was ever May so gayA
As what the poets sayA
If soE
We knowE
We live not in their dayA
-
A cosy coat and wrapF
You may not find mishapF
PropoF
You knowE
When comes the next cold snapF
-
A heavy woollen scarfG
Strong boots that reach the calfH
Away we goE
Through snow and slush and wetI
And can we once forgetI
'Tis May Oh noE
-
Best is the old adviceJ
Which we so oft despiseK
Cast not a cloutL
Till May goes outL
May like a maiden liesK
-
A Maypole dance O myM
Such sport is all my eyeM
Just tryM
I tried it and I knowE
The snow the blowE
The aching toes the smarting noseN
-
I all defiedO
And loudly criedO
Come onP
Each oneQ
Be gay be gay 'Tis May Tis MayA
They laughed and shook the headR
And this is what they saidR
Old Skunk he's drunkS
-
Still we do love her soE
Her truth O noE
She's like some fancy fickleT
She lands you in a pickleT
You grin and bearU
Maybe you swearU
In manner most alarmingV
And yet Sweet May is charmingV
