Backward Turn, Oh! Recollection Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFGFHIHI AJAJKLKL MNMOPQPQ

Backward turn oh recollectionA
Far far back to childhoods' daysB
To those treasures of affectionA
'Round which loving memory playsB
Show to me the loving facesC
Of my parents now no moreD
Fill again the vacant placesC
With the images of yoreD
-
Conjure up the home where comfortE
Seemed to make its cosy nestF
Where the stranger's only passportG
Was the need of food and restF
Show the schoolhouse where with othersH
I engaged in mental strifeI
And the playground where as brothersH
Running jumping full of lifeI
-
Now I see the lovely maidenA
That my young heart captive ledJ
Like a sylph with gold curls ladenA
And her lips of cherry redJ
Now fond voices seem to echoK
Tones as when I heard them lastL
And my heart sighs sadly Heigh hoK
For the joys for ever pastL
-
From the past back to the presentM
Come ye wandering thoughts againN
Memories however pleasantM
Will not rid to day of painO
Now we live the past is buriedP
We are midway in life's streamQ
Onward onward ever hurriedP
And the futures but a dreamQ
