Rhyme Scheme: ABABBBBB BBBBCDCD EFGFDHDH IBBBJGJG

A little lad bare wor his feetA
His 'een wor swell'd an redB
Wor sleepin one wild New Year's neetA
A cold doorstep his bedB
His little curls wor drippin weetB
His clooas wor thin an oldB
His face tho' pinched wor smilin sweetB
His limbs wor numb wi' coldB
-
Th' wind whistled throo th' deserted streetB
An snowflakes whirled abaatB
It wor a sorry sooart o' neetB
For poor souls to be aghtB
'Twor varry dark noa stars or mooinC
Could shine throo sich a stormD
Unless some succour turns up sooinC
God help that freezin formD
-
A carriage stops at th' varry haaseE
A sarvent oppens th' doorF
A lady wi' a pale sad faceG
Steps aght o'th' cooach to th' floorF
Her 'een fell on that huddled formD
Shoo gives a startled cryH
Then has him carried aght o'th' stormD
To whear its warm an dryH
-
Shoo tended him wi' jewelled handsI
An monny a tear shoo shedB
For shoo'd once had a darlin ladB
But he alas wor deadB
This little waif seemed sent to cheerJ
An fill her darlin's placeG
An to her heart shoo prest him nearJ
An kissed his little faceG
