Spectral Lovers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACD EFFEGH AAAAIJ DKKDAA ALLADD ALLAAA

By night they haunted a thicket of April mistA
Out of that black ground suddenly come to birthB
Else angels lost in each other and fallen on earthB
Lovers they knew they were but why unclasped unkissedA
Why should two lovers be frozen apart in fearC
And yet they were they wereD
-
-
Over the shredding of an April blossomE
Scarcely her fingers touched him quick with careF
Yet of evasions even she made a snareF
The heart was bold that clanged within her bosomE
The moment perfect the time stopped for themG
Still her face turned from himH
-
-
Strong were the batteries of the April nightA
And the stealthy emanations of the fieldA
Should the walls of her prison undefended yieldA
And open her treasure to the first clamorous knightA
This is the mad moon and shall I surrender allI
If he but ask it I shallJ
-
-
And gesturing largely to the moon of EasterD
Mincing his steps and swishing the jubilant grassK
Beheading some field flowers that had come to passK
He had reduced his tributaries fasterD
Had not considerations pinched his heartA
Unfitly for his artA
-
-
Do I reel with the sap of April like a drunkardA
Blessed is he that taketh this richest of citiesL
But it is so stainless the sack were a thousand pitiesL
This is that marble fortress not to be conqueredA
Lest its white peace in the black flame turn to tinderD
And an unutterable cinderD
-
-
They passed me once in April in the mistA
No other season is it when one walks and discoversL
Two tall and wandering like spectral loversL
White in the season s moon gold and amethystA
Who touch quick fingers fluttering like a birdA
Whose songs shall never be heardA
