Prayer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEF GCHACIJ AJKKK KKLKAJ MNOJPKACPKAFPNCA

SHE would not keep at home the foolish womanA
She would not mind her precious girls and boysB
She had to go for it was Sunday morningC
Down the hot road and to the barren pewD
And there abuse her superannuate kneesE
To make a prayerF
-
-
She had a huge petition on her bosomG
A heavy weight for such a lean old thingC
Her youngest boy made merry in the villageH
And had not entered into the communionA
And having labored with him long for nothingC
She meant to ask of God to save him yetI
Thank God she asked that favorJ
-
-
The manner of it echoes still in HeavenA
Before she dared to utter her desireJ
The strange old woman made approach to GodK
With many a low obeisance and abasementK
As having done so many things she ought notK
-
-
And left undone so many things she oughtK
And being altogether very wickedK
She testified she had not kept his templeL
Which was her heart all swept and white and readyK
She testified it O the shameless womanA
The spotless housekeeperJ
-
-
Now God sat beaming on his burnished throneM
And swept creation with appraising eyeN
Finding I fear not all was free from blemishO
Yet keeping his magnificent composureJ
But wearing certain necessary airsP
To suit with such incumbency of courtK
He still at heart was quite a gentlemanA
For when he saw that aged lady droopingC
And wearying her bones with genuflectionsP
For her unworthiness he fell ashamedK
To think how hard it went with holy womenA
To ease their poor predicaments by prayerF
There on his heaven and heard of all the hostsP
He groaned he made a mighty face so wryN
That several seraphin forgot their harpingC
And scolded thus 'O what a wicked womanA
To shrew his splendid features out of shape '-
