Miriam Tazewell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAA BBBB CCCC DEEE BBBB

When Miriam Tazewell heard the tempest burstingA
And his wrathy whips across the sky drawn cracklingA
She stuffed her ears for fright like a young thingA
And with heart full of the flowers took to weepingA
-
-
But the earth shook dry his old back in good seasonB
He had weathered storms that drenched him deep as this oneB
And the sun Miriam ascended to his dominionB
The storm was withered against his empyreanB
-
-
After the storm she went forth with skirts kiltedC
To see in the hot sun her lawn defloweredC
Her tulip iris peony strung and peltedC
Pots of geranium spilled and the stalks nakedC
-
-
The spring transpired in that year with no flowersD
But the regular stars went busily on their coursesE
Suppers and cards were calendared and some bridalsE
And the birds demurely sang in the bitten poplarsE
-
-
To Miriam Tazewell the whole world was villainB
The principle of the beast was low and masculineB
And not to unstop her own storm and be maudlinB
For weeks she went untidy she went sullenB
