By The Riverside Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDBEB FFFFGFHF HHFHGHHH

A GREAT green spread of meadow landA
Must rest his weight on an ample baseB
A secret water moving onC
A clean blue air for his breathing spaceB
A pair of willows bending downD
In double witness to his graceB
And on the rock his sinner sprawlsE
And looks the Strong One face to faceB
-
-
The sinner's mocking tongue is dryF
Wonder is on that mighty jeererF
He loves and he never loved beforeF
He wants the glowing sky no nearerF
He likes the willows to be twoG
He would not have the water clearerF
He thinks that God is perfect onceH
Heaven rejoice a new God fearerF
-
-
And now each quiet thing awakesH
And dances madly wavers dipsH
These are God's motions on the airF
His Pulse for the sinner's finger tipsH
His arrows shot across the blueG
His love words dropping from his lipsH
And who ever heard such whisperingsH
Who ever saw such fellowshipsH
