A Drawing In The Tate Gallery: Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDCCEF GAHCIJK CLMACBNCC

The Man Who Taught Blake Painting in His DreamsA
-
is still around somewhere Survived the smokeB
and fires the footsteps melting into stoneC
the city dark within its haze of timeD
Endured somehow that face both epiceneC
and bold with innocence though now withdrawnC
diminished paled like some further starE
to sit behind a stall near London BridgeF
-
Yet lasted since for painting lessons BlakeG
in turn taught him to sing and in those dreamsA
they labored over angels burning tigersH
bade their host prophetic spears cast downC
and joyously to praise the LambI
and foundJ
themselves still dreaming charmed outside their dreamK
-
Blake sailed away for on each cobblestoneC
or casement glimmered visions of that realmL
and madly through the streets he danced and sangM
The man who taught him painting in his dreamsA
was left aloneC
Around him coiled the smokeB
he watches through today from park bench pubN
or moving bus listening for that strainC
alone empowered to dream him back againC
