Spring Showers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIDDJFKLMDNOP QRSTUGDVWDXYDDVMZA2B 2C2A2DThe north east spends his rage he now shut up | A |
Within his iron cave th' effusive south | B |
Warms the wide air and o'er the void of heaven | C |
Breathes the big clouds with vernal showers distent | D |
At first a dusky wreath they seem to rise | E |
Scarce staining ether but by swift degrees | F |
In heaps on heaps the doubling vapour sails | G |
Along the loaded sky and mingling deep | H |
Sits on th' horizon round a settled gloom | I |
Not such as wintry storms on mortals shed | D |
Oppressing life but lovely gentle kind | D |
And full of every hope and every joy | J |
The wish of nature Gradual sinks the breeze | F |
Into a perfect calm that not a breath | K |
Is heard to quiver through the closing woods | L |
Or rustling turn the many twinkling leaves | M |
Of aspen tall Th' uncurling floods diffused | D |
In glassy breath seem through delusive lapse | N |
Forgetful in their course 'Tis silence all | O |
And pleasing expectation Herds and flocks | P |
Drop the dry sprig and mute imploring eye | Q |
The falling verdure Hush'd in short suspense | R |
The plumy people streak their wings with oil | S |
To throw the lucid moisture trickling off | T |
And wait th' approaching sign to strike at once | U |
Into the general choir Even mountains vales | G |
And forests seem impatient to demand | D |
The promised sweetness Man superior walks | V |
Amid the glad creation musing praise | W |
And looking lively gratitude At last | D |
The clouds consign their treasures to the fields | X |
Prelusive drops let all their moisture flow | Y |
In large effusion o'er the freshen'd world | D |
The stealing shower is scarce to patter heard | D |
By such as wander through the forest walks | V |
Beneath th' umbrageous multitude of leaves | M |
But who can hold the shade while heaven descends | Z |
In universal bounty shedding herbs | A2 |
And fruits and flowers on Nature's ample lap | B2 |
Swift fancy fired anticipates their growth | C2 |
And while the milky nutriment distils | A2 |
Beholds the kindling country colour round | D |
