Rule Britannia Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDECC FGFGCC HIHICC BJBJCC KLKLCC

When Britain first at Heaven's commandA
Arose from out the azure mainB
This was the charter of the landA
And guardian angels sung this strainB
Rule Britannia rule the wavesC
Britons never will be slavesC
-
The nations not so blest as theeD
Must in their turns to tyrants fallE
While thou shalt flourish great and freeD
The dread and envy of them allE
Rule Britannia rule the wavesC
Britons never will be slavesC
-
Still more majestic shalt thou riseF
More dreadful from each foreign strokeG
As the loud blast that tears the skiesF
Serves but to root thy native oakG
Rule Britannia rule the wavesC
Britons never will be slavesC
-
Thee haughty tyrants ne'er shall tameH
All their attempts to bend thee downI
Will but arouse thy generous flameH
But work their woe and thy renownI
Rule Britannia rule the wavesC
Britons never will be slavesC
-
To thee belongs the rural reignB
Thy cities shall with commerce shineJ
All thine shall be the subject mainB
And every shore it circles thineJ
Rule Britannia rule the wavesC
Britons never will be slavesC
-
The Muses still with freedom foundK
Shall to thy happy coast repairL
Blest isle with matchless beauty crown'dK
And manly hearts to guard the fairL
Rule Britannia rule the wavesC
Britons never will be slavesC
