E.b.b. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII JKLMNN

THE WHITE ROSE garland at her feetA
The crown of laurel at her headB
Her noble life on earth completeA
Lay her in the last low bedB
For the slumber calm and deepC
He giveth His belov d sleepC
-
Soldiers find their fittest graveD
In the field whereon they diedE
So her spirit pure and braveD
Leaves the clay it glorifiedE
To the land for which she foughtF
With such grand impassioned thoughtF
-
Keats and Shelley sleep at RomeG
She in well loved Tuscan earthH
Finding all their death s long homeG
Far from their old home of birthH
Italy you hold in trustI
Very sacred English dustI
-
Therefore this one prayer I breatheJ
That you yet may worthy proveK
Of the heirlooms they bequeathL
Who have loved you with such loveM
Fairest land while land of slavesN
Yields their free souls no fit gravesN
