Care Of Birds For Their Young Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGGHIJCKLMNMILM OOGLLPQOGROSTOGLLGOO U

As thus the patient dam assiduous sitsA
Not to be tempted from her tender taskB
Or by sharp hunger or by smooth delightC
Tho' the whole loosen'd spring around her blowsD
Her sympathising partner takes his standE
High on th' opponent bank and ceaseless singsF
The tedious time away or else suppliesG
Her place a moment while she sudden flitsG
To pick the scanty meal Th' appointed timeH
With pious toil fulfill'd the callow youngI
Warm'd and expanded into perfect lifeJ
Their brittle bondage break and come to lightC
A helpless family demanding foodK
With constant clamour O what passions thenL
What melting sentiments of kindly careM
On the new parents seize Away they flyN
Affectionate and undesiring bearM
The more delicious morsel to their youngI
Which equally distributed againL
The search begins Even so a gentle pairM
By fortune sunk but form'd of gen'rous mouldO
And charm'd with cares beyond the vulgar breatO
In some lone cot amid the distant woodsG
Sustain'd alone by providential Heav'nL
Oft as they weeping eye their infant trainL
Check their own appetites and give them allP
Nor toil alone they scorn exalting loveQ
By the great Father of the spring inspiredO
Gives instant courage to the fearful raceG
And to the simple art With stealthy wingR
Should some rude foot their woody haunts molestO
Amid a neighbouring bush they silent dropS
And whirring thence as if alarmed deceiveT
The unfeeling shool boy Hence around the headO
Of wandering swain the white winged plover wheelsG
Her sounding flight and then directly onL
In long excursion skims the level lawnL
To tempt him from her nest The wild duck henceG
O'er the rough moss and o'er the trackless wasteO
The heath hen flutters pious fraud to leadO
The hot pursuing spaniel far astrayU
