An Elegy On Parting Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEEFFGHIIJJKKLMNN OOPPQQRSTT

It was a sad ay 'twas a sad farewellA
I still afresh the pangs of parting feelB
Against my breast my heart impatient beatC
And in deep sighs bemoan'd its cruel fateD
Thus with the object of my love to partE
My life my joy 'twould rend a rocky heartE
Where'er I turn myself where'er I goF
I meet the image of my lovely foeF
With witching charms the phantom still appearsG
And with her wanton smiles insults my tearsH
Still haunts the places where we used to walkI
And where with raptures oft I heard her talkI
Those scenes I now with deepest sorrow viewJ
And sighing bid to all delight adieuJ
While I my head upon this turf reclineK
Officious sun in vain on me you shineK
In vain unto the smiling fields I hieL
In vain the flowery meads salute my eyeM
In vain the cheerful birds and shepherds singN
And with their carols make the valleys ringN
Yea all the pleasure that the country yieldO
Can't me from sorrow for her absence shieldO
With divine pleasure books which one inspireP
Yea books themselves I do not now admireP
But hark methinks some pitying power I hearQ
This welcome message whisper in my earQ
Forget thy groundless griefs dejected swainR
You and the nymph you love shall meet againS
No more your muse shall sing such mournful laysT
But bounteous heaven and your kind mistress praiseT
