A Summer Noon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDBEFGHIJEKLMNOPQR STUCVWXEYZFA2B2C2D2A 2A2'Tis raging noon and vertical the sun | A |
Darts on the head direct his forceful rays | B |
O'er heaven and earth far as the ranging eye | C |
Can sweep a dazzling deluge reigns and all | D |
From pole to pole is undistinguish'd blaze | B |
In vain the sight dejected to the ground | E |
Stoops for relief thence hot ascending steams | F |
And keen reflection pain Deep to the root | G |
Of vegetation parch'd the cleaving fields | H |
And slippery lawn an arid hue disclose | I |
Blast fancy's bloom and wither even the soul | J |
Echo no more returns the cheerful sound | E |
Of sharpening scythe the mower sinking heaps | K |
O'er him the humid hay with flowers perfumed | L |
And scarce a chirping grasshopper is heard | M |
Through the dumb mead Distressful nature pants | N |
The very streams look languid from afar | O |
Or through th' unshelter'd glad impatient seem | P |
To hurl into the covert of the grove | Q |
All conquering heat oh intermit thy wrath | R |
And on my throbbing temples potent thus | S |
Beam not so fierce incessant still you flow | T |
And still another fervent flood succeeds | U |
Pour'd on the head profuse In vain I sigh | C |
And restless turn and look around for night | V |
Night is far off and hotter hours approach | W |
Thrice happy he who on the sunless side | X |
Of a romantic mountain forest crown'd | E |
Beneath the whole collected shade reclines | Y |
Or in the gelid caverns woodbine wrought | Z |
And fresh bedew'd with ever sprouting streams | F |
Sits coolly calm while all the world without | A2 |
Unsatisfied and sick tosses in noon | B2 |
Emblem instructive of the virtuous ma | C2 |
Who keeps his temper'd mind serene and pure | D2 |
And every passion aptly harmonised | A2 |
Amid a jarring world with vice inflamed | A2 |
