First love can last a lifetime...Set in the beautiful city of Venice, a captivating novel from the Sunday Times bestselling author of SUMMER AT THE LAKE. Venice has been Lydia's home for many years, a place where she has found peace and fulfilment. Then one day she glimpses a young man's face in the crowd that threatens to change everything. He's a heart-stopping reminder of a dreadful secret she believed she had banished to the past... As a young child, Lydia and her sister were sent to live with grandparents they'd never even met before. It was a cruel and loveless new world for them and it forced Lydia to grow up fast. She learned to keep secrets and to trust sparingly, and through it all she was shadowed by grief and guilt. Now, twenty-eight years later, Lydia is persuaded to leave behind the safe new life she has created for herself and return to England to face the past. And maybe her future.

Publisher: Lulu.com

Categories: Fiction
M. R. James wrote his ghost stories to entertain friends on Christmas Eve, and they went on to both transform and modernise a genre. James harnesses the power of suggestion to move from a recognisable world to one that is indefinably strange, and then unforgettably terrifying. Sheets, pictures, carvings, a dolls house, a lonely beach, a branch tapping on a window, ordinary things take on more than a tinge of dread in the hands of the original master of suspense.

Patricia Stone: My Father was a minister... He would quote the “ballad of the tempest “ .. to many a broken soul .. in grief / physical / emotional pain... It was such a part of his life and ministry to people in difficult places .. he used the poem and scripture as he spoke of hope... in many ways like Jesus calmed the storm for the disciples... I’m thank for Mr Fields poem and wonder if the death of His Father a sea captain.. inspired this poem?

Andrew Lang Poem
Ballade Of The Midnight Forest
