Whale And Its Foes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDEE FFGG HHEE IIJJ EEBB KKII

Six hundred miles north of Cape FlatteryA
On sea there seemed a floating batteryA
And stream of blood did dye the waterB
Sailors wondered what was the matterB
-
But they soon saw a great sword fishC
With its bayonet make a quick rushD
Into which proved to be large whaleE
And thrasher too did it assailE
-
The whale dived deep to save its lifeF
But thrasher eager for the strifeF
Knew whale must rise for to get breathG
Then it would thrash the whale to deathG
-
At last the great whale it aroseH
And in distress it spouts and blowsH
In anger sweeps its mighty tailE
Defensive weapon of the whaleE
-
But thrasher high in air did leapI
And fell on monster of the deepI
The sword fish then it did advanceJ
And assaulted it with its lanceJ
-
Thus united foes soon do prevailE
And quick there floated a dead whaleE
The thrasher now victorious winnerB
From off the whale expected dinnerB
-
But ship's crew they secured the prizeK
Whale bone and blubber monster sizeK
Others fought but they only reapI
The spoils of mammoth of the deepI
