On sea there seemed a floating battery | A |
And stream of blood did dye the water | B |
Sailors wondered what was the matter | B |

But they soon saw a great sword fish | C |
With its bayonet make a quick rush | D |
Into which proved to be large whale | E |
And thrasher too did it assail | E |

The whale dived deep to save its life | F |
But thrasher eager for the strife | F |
Knew whale must rise for to get breath | G |
Then it would thrash the whale to death | G |

At last the great whale it arose | H |
And in distress it spouts and blows | H |
In anger sweeps its mighty tail | E |
Defensive weapon of the whale | E |

But thrasher high in air did leap | I |
And fell on monster of the deep | I |
The sword fish then it did advance | J |
And assaulted it with its lance | J |

Thus united foes soon do prevail | E |
And quick there floated a dead whale | E |
The thrasher now victorious winner | B |
From off the whale expected dinner | B |

But ship's crew they secured the prize | K |
Whale bone and blubber monster size | K |
Others fought but they only reap | I |
The spoils of mammoth of the deep | I |
